Overcoming My Health Impacts

November 02, 20234 min read

“Take care of your body, it's the only place you have to live.” - Jim Rohn

Introduction:

Sometimes, we don't realize the impacts we're having on our health. When you think about it this is easy to do. We're so busy we get distracted from taking better care of ourselves. Too many things force us away from better health.

Today, I want to share the journey I've started in overcoming my health impacts. I'm sure you can identify with some of all of these. Know that help is here as you read this blog. Share it if you like!

8 Reasons

With that said, here are 3 health impacts I encourage you to start overcoming, so you can start enjoying the healthy and strong life you deserve today! 👊

Health Impact #1: Lack of Quality Sleep

I would head to bed, read and lie there after awhile. My my ran like a freight train! I was shocked, because normally I’m a great sleeper. What was wrong? My stress was too high. Now isn’t that hilarious? Fact is, when your stress is high enough you quality of sleep is one of the first things to suffer. This is cruel to you because you deserve an excellent night of sleep after a long day at work.

Health Impact #2: Poor Water-Intake

If you’re like me, drinking plain water is boring! So, I used that as an excuse to not drink it, consistently. This left me dehydrated, which led to a lack of energy. Not to mention I was running around with dry skin. When you don’t have enough water the organs of body can not function as well. Think of water as fuel to help your body function throughout the day. Another impact of not having another day without water is you will have lower energy. This is because water washes toxins out of your body, raising your energy levels.

Health Impact #3: Overeating

Yes, the BIG ONE! My lack of portion control got the best of me during the COVID days. I gained weight on the foundation of many excuses to eat the way I did. I noticed it bending over to put on my shoes and socks. It became obvious my gut was sticking out over my belt. I didn’t like that! It was time for a change and I knew it.

My Encouragement to You

Has you health been negatively impacted in some way? It's not too late! Start making one small change at a time. Maybe you need to stop eating or drinking one unhealthy thing. It could be you need to walk once a week to get the ball rolling on better health. But you can do it! And here's how I did it...

The Simple Habit I Started

What got me on the road to overcoming these three health impacts? You can believe I have several more I’m dealing with. The first thing I did was create one, new simple habit. Believe me, I didn’t start the hard way!

I started running around my block.

Five days a week I ran as far as I could and stopped. The first time I only ran fifty feet and thought my lungs were going to burst! The next day I went a little further and so on. Now, I can run around my block almost twice.

Start Changing Your Health Habits

Here are some creative ways to start changing your health habits. The more you do them the easier they can be. You get to start creating the healthy consistency you've always wanted!

  • Start small. Trying to make big health changes in the beginning can stop your consistency.

  • Choose a fun activity to start getting healthy. Try running, walking or dancing once a week.

  • Be realistic and honest with yourself. What's the one healthy activity you will stick to?

  • Get a "Healthy Buddy." Ask someone you trust to walk this health journey with you!

  • Track your progress with a Health Impacts Journal. Write down how you feel, etc.

  • Take before and after food pictures. Show what you had been eating vs. the healthy food now.
